Daniel Crute has lived in Brisbane for the past three and a half years, having moved up from Sydney. He originally joined the Greens NSW in the late 1990s after seeing Bob Brown speak so passionately about saving the environment. Daniel is passionate about Brisbane and the area of Walter Taylor. He has seen Brisbane City Council make the same mistakes that Sydney has made in recent years with transport and infrastructure. This disappointment spurred him into action for this election.
"Why on earth Campbell Newman and the Labor controlled council think their 'tunnel vision' is sane policy, both environmentally and economically, is beyond me," says Daniel. "The financial failures of recent tunnel projects in Sydney serve as a timely reminder of the current administration's incompetence. Long after they are gone, we will all be paying for their debt-ridden mistakes in higher rates and for renters this means higher rents."
Daniel believes that the Greens provide the only real solutions to transport heading into the future with forward-thinking initiatives such as light rail. "We need to be thinking about this city's future now", says Daniel. "Brisbane is a beautiful place; I love this city. But Brisbane City Council has provided no incentives to residents to get out and actually enjoy and travel around the city environmentally responsibly. Instead of serious investment in safe bikeways, and encouraging commuters to car pool we have a Council closing T3 lanes and building more tollways."
Daniel works for a progressive trade union as a Research Officer, being involved in the Young Unionists Movement Qld amongst other progressive organisations. He participates in sporting teams, particularly enjoying football and indoor cricket. In what little spare time he does have Daniel enjoys watching movies, swimming, reading and debating. He is also an avid bike rider and animal lover.
- To get real action on local bikeways. For too long cyclists have had to put their lives in danger due to Council inaction on building safer bikeways on many popular routes.
- To fight for better, safer, more regular public transport, particularly on weekends. Daniel is a frequent public transport user and understands the issues facing everyday workers who commute on buses, trains and ferry.
- To bring back local control of development. Daniel Crute will tackle the Big End of town to support your end of town.
- To save our parks and develop new green space. Daniel Crute is the only candidate opposing unsustainable growth and he is committed to making sure Walter Taylor maintains its beautiful flora and fauna.
- To bring council back to the community. Daniel Crute will fight to grow and protect the character and diversity of Walter Taylor.
