Greens candidate for Central slams Hinchliffe flip flop on Regent

14 February 2008

Greens candidate for Central ward Anne Boccabella has criticised BCC Planning Chair David Hinchliffe for his backflip on protection of the Regent Theatre.

“After 20 years in City Council, David Hinchliffe still doesn’t seem to recognise a Brisbane icon when it pops up in his Weeties,” said Ms Boccabella.

“This is typical David Hinchliffe: always looking for the easy way out.”

“Just as he did with the CBD Masterplan and the convention centre in New Farm Park.”

“David’s job as Planning Chair is to ensure that Brisbane’s precious architectural heritage is safeguarded.”

“There are so many positive examples of retaining heritage buildings as part of new vibrant city centres.”

“I’m so disappointed that this wonderful opportunity could be lost for want of vision and the hard work needed to achieve it.”

“Brisbane could be one of the world’s great cities, but instead our current Council administration is settling for mediocrity. “

“The voters of Brisbane Central deserve a hard working local Councillor who is prepared to do the hard yards to get results.”

“Results like saving 76 small businesses in Paddington, protecting precious Ballymore green space and returning streets of Herston and Kelvin Grove to the residents, were achieved through hard work and tenacity. “
